Redwood Events have been proudly staging Fundraising walks for the Darby Rimmer Foundation every years since the charity launched in 2019. We have consistently had great support for members of the football community keen to support Stephen Darby, one of their own, as he faces his battle with Motor Neurone Disease. These have included Tony Kelly, John McGinlay, Jay Spearing, Chris Kirkland, Georgia Stanway, Neil Mellor and Wes Brown. This has prompted us to devise ‘March of the Day‘, provisionally planned for March 22-24, 2024.

This is a return to our pre-Covid format of a two day non-stop walk of 170 miles to be completed by a core team of 16. This time there is a difference. We are looking to recruit this core team from the football community.

In recent months, former Ipswich Town, Sunderland, Huddersfield Town and Bristol Rovers striker has become more active with the Foundation following his own MND diagnosis. We are working to recruit former teammates and friends of Marcus and Stephen Darby to complete the journey from Bradford City to Liverpool via sixteen other clubs along the way.

The core team will them be supplemented by groups of football fans at all points on their route. The journey is expected to start on the Friday morning in West Yorkshire and finish at Anfield early on the Sunday evening.

The Main Sponsor of the event is the Professional Footballers’ Association.
