Miles for Smiles is a team walk around the Kirklees area. Teams of up to six walkers take on the 21 mile distance which is broken down into five stages. The teams will register on the morning of the event at Scholes Cricket Club and will be set off in 20-30 second intervals. If, like in 2022, the numbers of teams is excessive, we will give teams a specific arrival time and add them to thirty minute slot for departure, thus reducing the number of people at the club relatively early in the morning. Throughout the walk, a team of marshals will support the walkers, checking them in at every stage end.

There is no requirement for all team members to complete every mile of the route. This event appeals to walkers of all abilities. While we expect most of those taking part to attempt to walk the full distance, stages can be shared out amongst the team. If this is your plan, you will need to arrange for a vehicle and driver to support your team.

In terms of fundraising, Eden and Beau’s families are looking to raise money this year for two charities, Neuroblastoma UK and Candlelighters. We will establish an event donation page and provide instructions to all teams on registering how to set up their own page for their team of walkers. We ask people to try to raise a minimum of £100 per person in the team. That said, last year your efforts were phenomenal and those targets were blitzed rather comfortably.

Teams can register at any time. Until we have recruited the main sponsor and stage sponsors, we wont be ordering any t-shirts or hoodies so we will advise those who register when their fees need to be paid. Its £10 per person to register (covering your t-shirt cost) and a further £15 if you also want to buy a hoodie.
